The practical rule: for a public sector job, apply only through Encuentra Empleo. For private jobs, combine Multitrabajos or Computrabajo (depending on the role) with LinkedIn.
Public sector jobs: merit and competition
Permanent public sector posts under the Public Service Law (LOSEP) are filled through concursos de méritos y oposición (merit-based competitions):

Nobody can sell or "guarantee" a public sector post. Any such offer is a scam.
Pay in 2026: minimum wage and mandatory bonuses
Ecuador's unified basic salary (Salario Básico Unificado, SBU) is USD 482 a month from 1 January 2026. It was set by Ministerial Agreement MDT-2025-195 of 15 December 2025, after a unanimous agreement of government, unions and employers in the National Labour and Wages Council.

Sector-specific minimum wages, set for 22 sectoral commissions, are higher than the SBU for many technical and professional jobs.
On top of the monthly salary, employees receive:

What this means for an offer: compare the monthly salary with the SBU and the sector minimum, and remember that the 13th and 14th salaries add roughly two extra months of pay a year.
Foreign applicants: the work visa
Foreigners who want to work in Ecuador need a temporary residence visa under the Organic Law on Human Mobility. It is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility for up to two years and can be renewed.
- Contract. Your employer signs the contract and registers it with the Ministry of Labour through the SUT system.
- Visa application. Apply online through the Foreign Ministry's e-VISAS service with your passport (valid at least six months), an apostilled criminal record certificate and proof of means of support. Check current fees on the Foreign Ministry's website.
- Cédula. Once the visa is issued, get your Ecuadorian identity card from the Civil Registry.
Ecuador's Labour Code does not set a general maximum share of foreign workers in private companies. In practice, employers still have to justify foreign hires, so make your specialist skills clear. If you work in a regulated field such as health, education or engineering, register your foreign degree with SENESCYT before you apply.

Avoiding job scams
Recruitment in Ecuador is free for candidates. Warning signs:
- Any fee for registration, tests, training, medical checks or "processing".
- Offers to sell or secure a public sector post outside Encuentra Empleo.
- Unsolicited offers on WhatsApp or Telegram, especially from unknown or foreign numbers.
- Free email addresses claiming to represent multinational companies.
- High daily pay for simple remote tasks, with no interview.
If something looks wrong, stop replying, check the vacancy on the company's official website or Encuentra Empleo, and report it to the police.
